Associate, Investment Operations

Full Time | Toronto

Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations: Conducts day-to-day activities of investment operations functions such as sending/receiving wires, resolving cash and position breaks, supporting the product lifecycle of securities, onboarding trading counterparties, and portfolio KYC.
  • Cash Forecasting: Supports daily and monthly cash forecasting and funding of the portfolios.
  • Operations and Controls: Manages all aspects of operations and controls, including trade processing, minimizing operational risk, and responding to internal & external inquiries.
  • Derivative Operations: Assists in derivative operations by reviewing and investigating settlement issues.
  • Relationship Management: Maintains ongoing collaborative working relationships with counterparties, prime brokers, and custodians.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively recommends process improvements to current operational procedures.
  • Ad-Hoc Projects: Responds to ad hoc projects in addition to day-to-day duties.

Critical Competencies

  • Technical Knowledge – Strong technical knowledge of hedge fund middle/back-office operations, fixed-income securities, and financial software.
  • Communication – An excellent communicator with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely, using strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organization & Planning – A natural analytical problem solver who can independently determine and modify their priorities to meet operational requirements and deadlines.
  • Operational Excellence – Confidently demonstrates knowledge of ethical standards and control principles, and upholds RPIA's control and service standard.
  • Attention to Detail – Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and the tenacity to go the distance to uphold the quality of the application and its output.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hedge fund operations;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Advanced MS Excel skills, VBA, and Python scripting skills;
  • Knowledge of the financial markets, with an emphasis on fixed-income products.
