Payroll and Accounting Associate

Full Time | Toronto


  • Processes and oversees payroll activities, ensuring accuracy, including salary calculations, deductions (CPP, EI), taxes, and timely payments of bonuses and overtime;
  • Analyzes and monitors payroll and payroll-related expenses, including CPP, EI, and benefits;
  • Assists with HR-related tasks such as collecting and processing new hire paperwork for payroll purposes, manages employee records, handles benefits changes, responds to employee inquiries and addresses payroll-related issues efficiently;
  • Keeps records of employee leaves, time worked, and other payroll-related information;
  • Supports day-to-day accounting functions, and records day-to-day financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries;
  • Reconciles bank statements and credit card statements to ensure accuracy;
  • Generates payroll and other financial reports for management, accounting, and audit purposes;
  • Collaborates with HR and administration to resolve payroll-related issues; and
  • Prepares ad hoc and scheduled people metrics reports for internal partners and senior leaders. 

      Critical Competencies

      • Technical Knowledge – Completion of Canadian Payroll Associate certification (PCP) or higher. Good working knowledge of a range of payroll functions (payroll, benefits, talent, etc.).
      • Operational Excellence - Knowledge of ethical standards and control principles with the confidence to uphold RPIA's control and service standards.
      • Communication – An excellent communicator with a firm command of written, verbal, and interpersonal skills necessary to present complex technical information in an easy-to-digest format.
      • Attention to Detail – Must be focused on accuracy and making sure that instructions are captured and executed with precision and care.
      • Integrity – Does not cut corners regarding ethics and upholds the values of the firm. Earns trust and maintains confidence, especially when handling sensitive information. Speaks plainly and truthfully.
      • Teamwork – Strong aptitude to motivate team members and encourage a thriving, team-first culture.


      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, master’s degree is an asset;
      • Minimum Three (3) to Five (5) years of Canadian payroll experience, ideally with exposure to HR and accounting functions; 
      • Canadian Payroll Associate certification (PCP) or CPA designation or in pursuit;
      • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Ceridian Dayforce or similar payroll systems) and employee database software; and
      • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel (in particular V LOOK UP, Pivot Tables, Charts, and Graphs).
