Richard Pilosof

Principal, Chief Executive Officer

Richard Pilosof is a founding partner and the Chief Executive Officer for RPIA, one of the largest alternative asset management firms in Canada.

 

Prior to founding RPIA, Richard spent over 25 years with RBC Capital Markets where he served as Managing Director and Head of Global Debt Markets. Richard also held responsibility for developing and building RBC’s international capital markets platform, now with significant operations in London, Hong Kong, Sydney and New York.

 

Richard is an active community volunteer, previously serving as Campaign Chair for the Mt. Sinai Hospital Foundation and as Chair of the Investment Committee at Greenwood College School. He is currently an Advisory Committee board member of Beat the Streets Toronto, a board member of the Ontario Junior Hockey League Foundation and President of the Pickering Panthers Junior A Hockey Club. Richard holds a BA in Finance from Coastal Carolina University.

Michael Quinn

Principal, Chief Investment Officer

Mike co-founded RP Investment Advisors with Richard Pilosof in 2009 and as Chief Investment Officer is responsible for formulating and implementing the firm’s investment strategy across the Funds.

 

Mike is a former Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets and during his 15 years at the Bank he held increasingly senior roles including managing the global credit trading business and the global structured credit business. Mike brings to RP Investment Advisors an expert knowledge of the global credit markets coupled with extensive experience of managing credit risk exposures across multi-billion dollar portfolios. Prior to joining RBC Capital Markets, Mike worked for a leading Toronto-based real estate developer as a Leasing Manager.

 

Mike holds a BComm from Queen’s University and a MBA from the University of British Columbia. He is involved with several charitable organisations most notably sitting on the Advisory Council for Evergreen City Works and as a Board Member for Beat the Streets Toronto.

Principal, Chairman

Andrew Pringle worked in the investment business at RBC Capital Markets from 1972 to 2002, where he retired as Managing Director, Head of Global Fixed Income and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He is currently Chair of the Shaw Festival and of the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR), having previously served as that charity’s President from 1995 to 2006. He is director of the Walrus Foundation and the Atlantic Salmon Federation, as well as an advisor to the Evergreen Foundation for the Evergreen Brickworks project, the Schmeelk Foundation and the Fort York Foundation. In August 2015 he was appointed Chair of the Toronto Police Services Board having been a board member since October 2011. Mr. Pringle is a Board member of Fidelity Investments in Canada having served on that company’s Independent Review Committee from 2007 to 2014. He is also a past Chair of the Board of Upper Canada College and a former member of the Fundraising Advisory Committee for The 519 Community Centre. Mr. Pringle has also been active in politics where he has been Chair of the PC Ontario Fund from 2004 to 2008. In October 2007, he was a Progressive Conservative candidate in the Ontario provincial election, following which he served as the volunteer Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Official Opposition, John Tory, at Queen's Park until the latter's resignation in early 2009. Most recently, in June 2016, Mr. Pringle was awarded the Order of Canada.
Mr. Pringle lives in Toronto with his wife, broadcaster Valerie Pringle. They have three children: Catherine (35), Anthony (33) and Geoffrey (29).

Management Advisor

Chuck Winograd serves as a Management Advisor to RP Investment Advisors. He is also a Senior Managing Partner of Elm Park Capital Management and President of Winograd Capital Inc. He retired from RBC Capital Markets on December 31, 2008, where he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of RBC Capital Markets and Group Head, Global Capital Markets. As a member of the firm’s Group Executive, he was one of eight executives charged with setting the overall strategic direction of Royal Bank Financial Group. Presently, Mr. Winograd is Chairman of the board for TMX Group Limited and is on the board of James Richardson and Sons Limited,, Spin Master Corp, and is on the board of Trustees for RioCan Management REIT. Chuck is a board member of Sinai Health System and Pathways to Education.

In the course of her career, Dannielle has held various managerial roles in Investment and Fund Accounting, Performance Measurement, Compliance, Client Relations, Corporate and Financial Reporting and Technology functions. In carrying out these responsibilities, she has led teams in the successful implementation of many innovative and complex investment strategies and sponsored or chaired steering committees for several large operations and technology re-engineering initiatives. She became a Certified General Accountant in 1997, was awarded her Chartered Financial Analyst® charter in 2002.

William Moriarty

Chair, Risk Committee

William W. Moriarty, CFA currently serves as a Senior Advisor and Chair of the Risk Committee of RP Investment Advisors LP. In addition, he serves as an Investment Advisor to the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan, Chair of the Invesco Canada Funds Advisory Board, Chair of Invesco Canada’s Independent Review Committee, a member of the Advisory Board of Tundra Process Solutions Ltd. and an Advisor to Canadian Overseas Investments Limited.

 

Mr. Moriarty is the former President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation, a registered Portfolio Manager and Investment Fund Manager that managed $8.1B in pension assets and endowment funds. Prior to joining UTAM during 2008, Mr. Moriarty was a Vice Chairman of RBC Capital Markets.

 

Over his career at RBC, which began in 1983, Mr. Moriarty served as: Director of Equity Research and Chair of the Investment Strategy Committee; Head of the Global Research Division; Head of the Global Equity Division; Co-Head of the Capital Markets Services Division; and, Head of the Alternative Investments Division. He was also a member of the RBC Capital Markets’ Operating and Executive Committees, the Bank’s Pension Investment Committee, and a Director of RBC Asset Management Inc. (mutual funds) and RBC Capital Partners Limited (private equity). In addition, he has served on several community, industry and public Boards and was a founding Director of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and Chair of Market Regulation Services Inc. (the SRO that regulated securities trading and market related activities of participants on Canadian Stock Exchanges and alternative trading systems). More recently, he served as a member of the Ontario Ministry of Finance’s Pooled Asset Management Implementation Working Group. Mr. Moriarty holds a BA from the University of Toronto, an MA from the University of Chicago, a CFA from the CFA Institute and completed the Board Effectiveness Program at the Rotman International Centre for Pension Fund Management.

Liam O’Sullivan joined the RP Investment Advisors team in 2010 having previously worked as Chief Risk Officer for Northwest Investment Management Company - a convertible arbitrage hedge fund based in the UK. Prior to that Liam was on the Credit Trading team at CIBC World Markets also in London. At RP Investment Advisors, Liam is a Portfolio Manager with a focus on Investment Grade North American corporate credit. Liam is a CFA charterholder, holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Oxford University, and an MA in Economics from the University of British Columbia.

Head of Client Engagement

Caroline Cathcart has over 20 years of leadership and investment management experience. Prior to joining RPIA in July 2015, Caroline was Vice President, Corporate Development at Dundee Global Investment Management and was part of the executive team focused on building an alternative investment platform. She was also a Portfolio Manager with Goodman & Company, Investment Counsel Inc., Dundee’s investment counsel division. Caroline’s past experience includes the investment management of a number of Alternative Investment funds as well as private wealth management for select high net worth clients. In addition, she managed a team that provided investment fund management services and led the development of the $4 billion wealth management business at a boutique investment firm. Caroline has extensive experience managing investment teams, exempt market products and investment infrastructure and is a recognized leader in the investment management industry.

 

Caroline holds the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in Kingston. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute, a member of the CFA Institute and a member of the CFA Society of Toronto. Caroline is on the Philanthropy Committee of 100 Women in Hedge Funds Toronto and recently became the newest member of UNICEF Canada’s The 25th Team, a leadership circle of 60 Canadian women which has partnered with the Government of Canada to save the lives of vulnerable women and children in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Namibia and Peru.

Ann Glazier Rothwell has more than 20 years of experience in Canadian capital markets and alternative investment strategies. Prior to joining RPIA in 2012, Ms. Glazier Rothwell was the co- founder & Chief Investment Officer of Alpha Scout Capital Management, a Canadian focused fund of hedge funds and the Vice President & Director of the Alternative Investment Strategy and Proprietary Trading Group at TD Newcrest. Ann began her career at RBC DS in Fixed Income sales and trading later moving to institutional equity sales and proprietary trading in Toronto and New York with RBC DS, First Marathon/National Bank Financial and Newcrest Capital. In 2015, Ann was named one of 50 Leading Women in Hedge Funds by the Ernst & Young and Hedge Fund Journal’s global survey.

 

Ms. Glazier Rothwell is a CFA charterholder, a Leslie Wong Fellow of the UBC Portfolio Management Foundation and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the UBC Sauder School of Business. Ann is a member of the Board of Governors at St. Michaels University School and serves as Co-chair of the Investment Management Committee for the SMUS Endowment.

David Matheson

Principal, Portfolio Manager

David Matheson is a partner at RP Investment Advisors. Mr. Matheson joined at the foundation of the company, has worked as a portfolio manager since 2009 and has been instrumental in building the business. He focuses on the North American credit markets and interest-rate markets primarily. In his role, he also oversees funding, liquidity, foreign exchange, collateral management and middle office infrastructure. Prior to joining RPIA in 2009, he was a research analyst and investment strategist with Scotia Capital Inc. (now Scotiabank Global Banking and Capital Markets). Mr. Matheson's responsibilities at Scotia Capital were covering government bond and interest-rate swap relative value as well as general investment strategy. He also developed a number of bespoke quantitative analytical tools to identify pricing anomalies within the universe of products covered and authored a number of publications on various aspects of monetary policy investment strategy. Mr. Matheson holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business as well as a BA from the University of Toronto and is a CFA Charterholder.

Peter Metcalfe is a former Managing Director at TD Securities, where he was a senior member of the Credit Products Group, working in London and New York. In his thirteen years with TD, he held steadily increasing responsibilities managing risk capital within a multi-strategy trading group. He spent the majority of his career as head of US proprietary credit trading operations, encompassing credit, convertible, and capital structure arbitrage. He brings a wealth of credit experience across global markets, from his involvement in the inception of the credit derivative markets to eventually running a multi-billion dollar credit portfolio. Mr. Metcalfe is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a B.Comm. from Queen’s University.

Michael Isenberg has sixteen years of experience in finance and capital markets transactions. Prior to joining RPIA, Mr. Isenberg worked in the investment industry as a senior analyst at Gluskin Sheff + Associates, with a focus on the global financial sector. As part of the alternatives investment team at Gluskin Sheff, Mr. Isenberg had significant responsibilities assisting in the management of hedge fund portfolios, and worked in-depth on the firm’s fixed income alternatives portfolios, concentrating on credit analysis in respect of the financial sector. Prior to joining Gluskin Sheff, Mr. Isenberg worked as an investment banker in corporate finance, first in New York with Merrill Lynch & Co. and later at a boutique Canadian investment bank. Prior to his work in the investment banking industry, Mr. Isenberg practiced law in New York in the Derivatives, Structured Finance and Hedge Fund Group at Shearman & Sterling, LLP, a global corporate law firm. Mr. Isenberg graduated with honors from Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law.
