Associate Portfolio Manager

Full Time | Toronto

Responsibilities

  • Trade Execution: Engages the market to execute trades, monitor new issue calendar, manage trade flow, and originate new credit ideas.
  • Portfolio Construction: Contributes to general portfolio construction discussions.
  • Credit Analysis: Develops and expresses specific and broad credit views, working closely with the Research team to incorporate appropriate due diligence and robust credit analysis.
  • Risk Monitoring: Engages issuers, syndicate desks, sales & trading, and external research resources to effectively monitor existing credit risk and actively manage the fixed-income portfolio.
  • Market Focus: Focuses primarily on North American high-yield markets, with experience in European/Asian markets considered an asset.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with other members of the RPIA Execution, Research, Structuring, and Quantitative Portfolio Management teams.

  • Technical Knowledge – Strong technical knowledge of global fixed income markets, both on the cash and derivative side, portfolio construction, quantitative bond analysis; and portfolio metrics.

  • Communication – An excellent communicator with a firm command of written, verbal, and interpersonal skills necessary to present complex technical information to non-financial stakeholders. 
  • Teamwork – Strong aptitude to motivate team members and encourage a thriving, team-first culture. Brings a spirit of collaboration with the ability to maintain strong working relationships with peers and leaders within the organization.
  • Operational Excellence – Confidently demonstrates knowledge of ethical standards and control principles and upholds RPIA's control and service standards.

Requirements

  • University degree with high academic standing;
  • Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of fixed-income experience within a broker-dealer or buy-side institution;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an investment decision-making role;
  • Financial and accounting foundation required;
  • Experience in bond execution and trading, portfolio construction theory;
  • Experience in portfolio construction and managing a fixed-income portfolio;
  • CFA Level 1 or CIM, and other minimum criteria for registration with Canadian securities regulators are required.
