Portfolio Manager

Responsibilities
- Conducting market, sector, and company analyses of all sectors and/or companies as determined by the Head of Research, and which may change over time.
- Analyzing existing portfolio positions, new issue transactions/primary market offerings, or proposals.
- Determining interest in new bond issuance, secondary market trade ideas based on fundamental and/or technical factors across all asset classes of loans, debt, and equity, where relevant.
- Producing both qualitative and quantitative proprietary analysis.
- Hosting management calls/meetings, attending conferences, speaking with sell-side analysts and/or sales/traders, rating agency analysts, regulators, sector specialists, and consultants where necessary.
- Assigning internal ratings, target prices/yields/spreads, analyzing and recommending position sizes and catalysts for future investments/divestments, as well as analysis of ESG factors within your coverage strata and other developing drivers that may emerge.
- Providing investment ideas in both the cash and derivatives markets, primarily in Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
- Preparing presentations for the investment management group and writing research notes on sector or company-specific themes.
- Collaborating with other members of the RPIA execution, research, structuring, and quantitative portfolio management teams.
Critical Competencies
- Operational Excellence – Has strong knowledge of ethical standards, due diligence, quality assurance, and control principles with the confidence to uphold RPIA's control and service standards.
- Technical Knowledge – Possesses and demonstrates technical knowledge of global fixed income markets, both on the cash and derivative side, portfolio construction, quantitative bond analysis and portfolio metrics is required in this role. Programming and mathematical skills will be considered an asset.
- Persistence & Motivation – A self-starter who can analyze the market thoroughly and ensure professional execution of trades.
Integrity – Proactive, positive, professional who takes ownership of the role & responsibilities, understands the importance of utmost confidentiality, and furthers RPIA’s reputation in all your actions.
Requirements
- At least five (5) years of fixed income or equity investment experience
- At least three (3) years of experience in an investment decision-making role is required
- Industry expertise in the Technology, Media, Telecommunications (TMT) sector and/or Healthcare sector
- University degree with high academic standing
- Financial and accounting foundation is a must
- CFA or CIM, and other minimum criteria for registration with Canadian securities regulators is required
- Experience in bond execution and trading, portfolio construction theory
- Experience in portfolio construction and managing a fixed income portfolio
- Focus will be on North American and European investment grade and high yield” markets
- Candidate must be a self- starter with a sound technical and fundamental credit background
